Tunis
- A vast urban area with 2 million inhabitants, a modern town
with an authentic medina, Tunis or ancient Tunez took over
from Carthage upon the arrival of the Arab conquerors, it
then became the capital, and was at its peak in the 13th century
under the reign of the Hafsides.
However, Carthage still stands high on its hill,
its ruins a reminder of its former glory.
A longside, the smart village of Sidi Bou Saïd is perched
like a shining white crown on the other hill heralding the
magnificent seaside resorts of La Marsa and Gammarth which
boast luxury hotels and quality restaurants.
A longside all these facilities, thoughtfully,
located in the superb orange grove of La Soukra, another of
Tunis" suburbs, lies a golf course.
Carthage golf course (la Soukra)
Just eight minutes from Tunis-Carthage airport,
10 Km from the town centre, Carthage golf course has
been set in a veritable oasis of freshness and greenery in
the shade of hundred-year-old eucalyptus trees. The 18-hole
course does not favour "out-of bounds" shots, but
demands skill and accuracy from even the most accomplished
players.
The fairways run amidst magnificent trees, with
very varied essences, including a multitude of eucalyptus,
pines, cypress, palm and olives which provide shade in summer
and colour in the remaining seasons.
Some holes are surrounded by gardens in which
orange, mandarin and lemon trees are growing.
Open all year round, Carthage Golf Course
is waiting for you to trip your irons and your putter on its
greens, which are protected by many bunkers.
