DAR BEN ABDALLAH
Rue Sidi Qacem, impasse Ben Abdallah
Built in 1796, this palace is home to the Centre of Popular
Arts and Traditions.
This is more than a museum and gives an insight into the
intimate side of these magnificent houses where people led
a peaceful family life. The offset entry leads to an open
courtyard round which were situated the family apartments
which today hold the museum. The collection of objects re-creates
bourgeois life of Tunis in the 19th century with an interesting
selection of gold embroidered costumes, jewellery encrusted
with precious stones and a collection of unusually fine
everyday objects. The four rooms are dedicated respectively
to the master of the house, another to the bride, the third
to women and the fourth to childhood.
