Uthina / Oudna
Uthina lies now at 25 km south-west of the Tunisian
capital. Little is known about pre-Roman Uthina. As an Augustan
colony, precociously romanised, the city reached an apex under
the reigns of the Antonines and the Severans. Its decline
was as untimely in spite of a short renaissance in the fourth
century. Abandoned in the fifth century, Uthina was talked
about no more...
Submitted to a thorough programme of excavations, the site
has already revealed many important monuments such as the
theatre, amphitheatre, aqueduct, villas, thermes, so many
monuments which show the importance of a wealthy city founded
in a fertile wheat-soil...
