Aspis/Clupea/Klibia
Today an important town in the Cap Bon, Klibia
has kept a few vestiges from its glorious past. A strategic
Punic port known under the name Aspis, the place underwent
diverse occupations and many sieges. Named Clupea under the
Romans, it reached an apex in the second and third centuries;
and found once again, later, its strategic vocation by becoming
a Byzantine then Hafsid stronghold... This the reason why
the Spaniards kept storming it...
