The Sidi Bou Ali oasis is still
today an important pilgrimage site (particularly on the
third day of Aid el kebir) ; with its marabout and its
twenty four khotba mosques, it constitutes an important
religious pole, perhaps second to Kairouan.
Irrigated by 152 streams, some of wich form a single stream
at the bottom of the basin denominated the "corbeille
of Nefta" and from wich one can enjoy a splendid
view of the palm trees, Nefta represents a real miracle
|
- the miracle of water. Its
seems that Sidi Ali, who come from Morocco in the 12th
century, brought with him from Toughourt date seeds that
he planted - this constitutes the second miracle : the
quality deglet-en-nour, delicate and transparent golden
dates having an exquisite taste. Today, the palms cover
over 300 hectares and are the wealth of the inhabitants
as well as the dignified representatives of all of Tunisia.
The third miracle is that of tourism, favored by the creation
of a large international airport and the construction
of large hotels. |
