Dsince its creation the festival aspired to realizing 2 objectives :

1- Promoting and advertising the fortunes of the region's cultural and civilization patrimony
2 -Guaranteeing a better revitalization of the tourism and craft sectors which constitute the basis of the region's economy and so give an opportunity to the people to enjoy the rich, the sumptuous and the varied programme.

The programme includes:
- the organisation of an opera tracing back the customs, the lifestyles and the traditions of djerba residents throughout the ages the different eras.

- cultural representations aiming at introducing the region's celebrities and leading experts : their biographies, their workes and their contributions to the civilization.

-open air animation : parades inspired by the region's customs and traditions
