On the track of time
There
are many remains to make you reflect on the invasion-troubled
past of this peaceful oasis (see Borj El Kébir and
Borj Kastil).
Visitors will see that some of the mosques in this region,
unlike their traditional tall thin style, are built rather
squat. In fact they were used as fortresses against invaders.
This much coveted land was never subjugated by the conquerors,
thanks to the traditional courage of the Berber race. Land
of the Tamazighan, today you are the land of free men !
In the middle of Djerba island, the two villages of Hara Kébira
and Hara Séghira bear witness to the presence of a
Jewish community.
